✢ ABOUT US ✢

Beliefs & Values

We are Disciples of Christ, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us. We affirm that all people are God’s children. We believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of the Living God and offers saving grace to all.

Our Core Beliefs

Freedom of Belief

We believe that we are called to follow the teachings of Jesus as God's Son. All of us are free to follow our consciences guided by Scripture, the Holy Spirit, study and prayer and we extend that freedom to others, respecting that people find their way to God by many different paths.

The Bible

We hold the centrality of Scripture and recognize that each person has the freedom- and the responsibility- to study God’s Word. We believe that the Holy Spirit works within the community of faith to help us understand and interpret God’s living word to us.

Baptism

Immersion in the waters of baptism is an outward sign of God's grace in our lives and our response to that grace. While we practice baptism by immersion, other baptism traditions are honored and respected.

Communion

The Lord's Supper or Communion is celebrated weekly in worship. The table is open to all.

The Ministry of All Believers

We believe that God calls us all – both the ministers and the members of the church - to lead in worship, to serve, and to grow spiritually into the gifts God has given us regardless of race, gender or sexual orientation.

Disciples History

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded in the early 1800s in the United States. Seeking to move beyond denominational divisions, the founders envisioned a united church of Jesus Christ modeled on the New Testament. The Disciples have a long heritage of openness to other Christian traditions having come into existence as a 19th century protest movement against denominational exclusiveness. At the local level and beyond, Disciples are frequently involved in cooperative and ecumenical work. The Disciples continue to seek partnership with other denominations and congregations and the unity of Christ’s church.
